Pennsylvania surpasses 1,000 measles cases; New York declares disaster emergency
The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced Oct. 5 that the state has reached 1,004 confirmed measles cases this year. There have been 27 new positive cases since the department’s last update on Oct. 2. In total, 108 people have been hospitalized and five measles-associated deaths have occurred amid the ongoing outbreak, according to the department. In New York, a disaster emergency was declared Oct. 5 due to rising measles cases in the state, which are currently at 109 total, according to state and New York City health departments.
