Medical device supplier says cyber incident is disrupting some operations
Boston Scientific, a large supplier of medical devices, said in an Aug. 26 statement posted on its website that on Aug. 25 it “identified a cybersecurity incident affecting certain information technology systems that resulted in a network outage and disruption to the company’s operations.”
The company said that once the incident was detected, it “activated incident response protocols and began an investigation to assess and contain the threat with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts. The incident has impacted access to certain operating systems and business applications, including the ability to process and ship customer orders.”
The Aug. 26 statement said the incident is ongoing and “the timeline for a full restoration is not yet known.”
The AHA is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
According to its website, Boston Scientific’s portfolio of devices and therapies helps physicians diagnose and treat complex cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, oncological, neurological and urological diseases and conditions.
