Investing in Community Health: A Discussion for Senior Hospital Leaders

Given the growing recognition of the importance of societal factors (e.g., social needs, social determinants and systemic causes) in generating health outcomes, pioneering health organizations are investing upstream to address community conditions, such as a lack of quality affordable housing. With funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Center for Community Investment (CCI) has been working with six leading health care systems to help them identify community priorities and use their assets — land, financial resources, relationships, expertise, etc. — to invest in pipelines of projects that advance those priorities.

This virtual event featured an overview of Investing in Community Health: A Toolkit for Hospitals and UPMC as a case example highlighting what the organizations have learned about launching successful community investment initiatives. Visit aha.org/communityinvestment for additional resources.
